The short answer

Capable Diagrams gives Confluence teams every way to draw in one app. It has six editors (a draw.io-compatible canvas, Excalidraw, BPMN, DMN, a text editor and a visual Mermaid editor) and about 30 diagram languages. Mermaid stays as source you can keep editing, and BPMN is modelled to the 2.0 standard, with token simulation.

Around the editors sit a catalogue in every space, collections that gather diagrams from any page, team and global templates, and a version history for every diagram. In Capable for Confluence, diagrams also appear on published sites and in site-wide search.

Gliffy is a long-established visual editor, and it is the better pick in two cases. One is Confluence Data Center. The other is several people editing the same diagram live. Capable leaves live co-editing out on purpose to keep editing simple.

  1. Both are billed through Atlassian and priced by your Confluence user tier, not per diagram.314

  2. On 28 October 2026 the Marketplace pricing data showed both Gliffy Diagrams for Confluence and Capable Diagrams free for up to 10 users on Cloud.37

  3. Gliffy's Zero Egress edition is a separate listing with its own pricing, and showed no free 10-user tier on the same date.5

  4. Capable Diagrams is also included in Capable for Confluence (All-in-One), which adds published sites, search inside diagrams, Markdown, forms, calendars and the rest.14

Moving from Gliffy

There is no one-click Gliffy migrator in Capable today. The converter exists but is held back because it still has fidelity gaps on real-world diagrams, and we would rather ship nothing than ship wrong diagrams.

  1. Diagrams that were already converted from Gliffy to draw.io migrate normally. It is the Gliffy files themselves that are not converted.

  2. Where a tool can export draw.io XML or Visio .vsdx, the export imports into Capable as an editable diagram. A flat image cannot be made editable by anyone.

  3. If Gliffy is what stops you moving, use the "Request it here" button in the migration wizard. Customer demand is what moves a held-back converter into a shipped one.

Is Capable Diagrams a Gliffy alternative?

For Confluence Cloud, yes. It covers hand-drawn diagrams in a draw.io-compatible canvas and Excalidraw, plus about 30 text diagram languages, BPMN, DMN, a catalogue, collections and templates. It is not available for Data Center.

Can I migrate my Gliffy diagrams to Capable automatically?

Not today. The Gliffy converter is written but held back because of fidelity gaps on real-world diagrams. Diagrams already converted from Gliffy to draw.io migrate normally.

Does Capable keep Mermaid diagrams as code?

Yes. Mermaid stays as source you can edit in the text editor or the Mermaid visual editor, and AI-generated diagrams are written as ordinary source too.

Can I see every diagram in a space?

Yes. The Capable Diagrams catalogue lists every indexed diagram in the space, with who made it and the page it sits on, and groups diagrams into collections and templates.

They need a Confluence licence, as they do to read the page. There is no separate diagram seat.

Where are Capable diagrams stored?
